As the World Cup reaches its final stages, people at Spil have been taking time out for in-depth analysis of the biggest games. What can we learn from World Cup matches about game mechanics, player engagement, and optimising user experience?

With 28 nationalities at Spil Games we’ve been supporting pretty much every team and we’d like to wish both sides good luck for the final on Sunday.

For each quarter and semi-final we started by A/B testing different game mechanics.

By simulating actual gameplay we were able to better understand the user experience.

Then we got together for discussion and analysis.

Next we assessed actual gameplay. Tension mounts as France look close to levelling-up.

Goal!! Frenchman Gauthier Dine (right) demonstrates to the team how user engagement works.
